Individual Membership: Any individual who is interested in or actively involved in blood banking and transfusion medicine activities.
Institutional Membership: Any facility that collects, processes, distributes or transfuses blood and/or blood components. AABB Accreditation is a requirement for institutional membership.
Affiliate Program: Any transfusion service that is currently not registered or licensed with the Food and Drug Administration; and organizations, facilities or professional groups in the health-care profession that do not collect or transfuse blood
Section Membership: Any individual member of the Association may also elect to join the Scientific and/or Administrative Section. Section membership is a great vehicle for bringing together members with similar interests, sharing information and networking with your peers.
REGULATORY/LEGISLATIVE/LEGAL
Regulatory Affairs Program monitors and reports on federal government agency activities affecting transfusion and cellular therapies communities. Member comments on federal rulemaking and policymaking activities are coordinated through the Regulatory Affairs Department. AABB positions on significant regulatory issues are presented before the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and other government agencies. Legislative Program monitors and reports on legislative activities in Congress; supports the AABB in developing position statements and congressional testimony on legislative issues facing the blood banking and transfusion medicine communities; and responds to legislative initiatives affecting blood banking. EDUCATION
National Conferences/Regional Workshops are held throughout the country to provide continuing education in one and two-day sessions on scientific, regulatory, technical and operational topics. Contact the Education Department at education@aabb.org or call (301) 215-6482.
Distance Learning Programs enable participants to learn the latest information through audio and video conferencing. This state-of-the-art educational series has enabled thousands of health care professionals to sharpen their skills, find out the latest technical procedures, management techniques and industry trends to improve performance and overall operations. Accreditation of SBB Programs Specialist in Blood Banking Technology (SBB) Programs are accredited by the AABB in collaboration with the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Contact the Education Department at education@aabb.org or call (301) 215-6482.
Certification Programs Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) and Blood Banker (BB) Certification are available through the AABB. AABB Annual Meeting & CTTXPOĀ is the only national forum for the presentation of new scientific, technical, management and operational information on blood banking and transfusion medicine. Education tracks focusing on specific member job functions, including scientific, technical, clinical, quality/education, administrative and recruitment/collections are incorporated into the meeting. In addition, programs on operations, management, negotiating, managed care, legal issues, ethical issues and an industry summit are part of this dynamic event. PUBLICATIONS
About Our Books : The AABB is the premier publisher for publications in the blood banking and transfusion medicine field. Our high quality publications and practice standards are relevant for todayās health-care professionals. Each book in our distinctive collection has been developed based on our high standards and on our understanding of what will benefit you, the blood banking and transfusion medicine professional.
The AABB publishes books under two publishing names, the AABB and AABB Press. There are subtle differences between these two publishing vehicles. Those books published under the AABB name focus on our activities as they relate to our standards, guidance-developing activities and committee work. AABB publications are written by our volunteer committee members as a direct charge from the AABB Board of Directors.
Books developed under the AABB Press program focus on a wide range of timely reference and research-oriented topics in blood banking and transfusion medicine. Also covered are related aspects of hematology, immunology, genetics, authoritative texts and training manuals. Book proposals are considered from professionals involved in blood banking and transfusion medicine. AABB News: This association magazine keeps members informed of recent and upcoming AABB and member events and industry news.
AABB Weekly Report : Exclusively online, this weekly publication focuses on breaking news and research affecting blood banks and transfusion services.

Standards Source: Standards Source is now published online, allowing greater flexibility in length and timing of updates to deliver relevant guidance directly to your inbox in a timely manner. You will receive up-to-date information on all aspects of AABBās standard-setting activities.
TRANSFUSION: TRANSFUSION is the monthly peer-reviewed journal of the AABB. The journal is the primary international vehicle for publication of scientific, technical and administrative papers relating to blood banking; transfusion medicine; hematopoietic, cellular and gene therapies; and tissue transplantation.

National Blood Exchange (NBE) provides a mechanism for resource sharing of blood and components between facilities across the country, thus allowing for the best utilization of blood resources. The National Blood Foundation (NBF), established in 1983, funds research and education projects that advance transfusion medicine, blood banking and cellular therapies to benefit both patients and donors.
