Institutional Membership

Any organization that performs activities traditionally performed by hospitals and community blood centers including the collection, processing, distribution or transfusion of blood and blood components is eligible for institutional membership. AABB Accreditation is a requirement for institutional membership.

Membership dues for institutional members are $1,000 ($1,200 for relationship testing facilities) plus applicable accreditation fees per membership year (January 1 to December 31).

Institutional Member Types

Transfusion Service - A facility that performs one or more of the following activities: compatibility testing, storage, selection and issuing of blood and components to intended recipients.

Blood Bank – A facility that performs, or is responsible for the performance of, the collection, processing, storage and distribution of human blood, components and tissue intended for transfusion and transplantation.

Donor Center A facility that performs, or is responsible for the performance of, the collection, processing, testing or distribution of blood and components.

HPC Service – A facility involved in qualifying donors, performing one or more of the manufacturing steps for HPC products (including collection, processing and storage), or distributing these products.

Cord Blood Service – A facility involved in any of the following activities: collection, processing and storage of cord blood products. May consist of more than one collection site.

Somatic Cell – a facility that performs one or more of the manufacturing steps for somatic cell products, including collection, processing, and storage, and/or distributes these products.

Relationship Testing Laboratory - A facility that performs relationship testing and provides parentage test reports.

Immunohematology Reference Laboratory – A facility equipped for performing investigational procedures pertaining to immunohematologic studies.

Perioperative Service – A location or operational area within a facility where any of the following activities are performed by the facility's staff or contract personnel: intraoperative and postoperative autologous blood recovery; perioperative autologous component production; and intraoperative acute normovolemic hemodilution, including - product collection, storage and administration.
