“Exercise” Your Enthusiasm for Research at an NBF Event

For nearly a decade, attendees have put their muscles to work for the National Blood Foundation (NBF) during special events at the AABB Annual Meeting. They’ve hit thousands of golf balls and run or walked hundreds of thousands of miles — all in an effort to support research. Of course, there was a lot of fun involved — participants did enjoy spending leisure time with their friends and colleagues — and at the end of the day, it was all for a good cause.

By participating in NBF-sponsored special fundraising events this week, you can help ensure that early-career investigators have what they need now to build the foundation of tomorrow’s new techniques, protocols and technologies.

Golf Tournament
On Friday afternoon, NBF kicks off a series of Annual Meeting events with its 11th Annual Golf Tournament and Challenge Cup at Coyote Hill Golf Course, rated one of the “best places to play” by Golf Digest, with a field of 120 enthusiastic golfing NBF supporters. Designed by Cal Olson and PGA Tour legend Payne Stewart, this beautiful and challenging course utilizes its natural surroundings, sharing nearly 250 acres with flowing streams, gnatcatchers and coyotes.

NBF 5K Run for Research/1 Mile Walk
On Sunday morning, begin your day with a refreshing walk or run outside the Anaheim Marriott.  The Run/Walk will take place from 6:45 am to 8:00 am. Enjoy a hearty breakfast afterwards on the Platinum Patio between the Anaheim Marriott and the convention center.  For those who register in advance, the fee is $40/person. On the day of the race, registration is $50. To register, visit the NBF Customer Service Booth inside the AABB Action Center during the day on Saturday.  Run/Walk participants who registered in advance of the meeting can pick up their event materials in the NBF Booth.

Get Involved!
If you can’t make these events, but would still like to make a donation to NBF, please stop by the NBF Customer Service Booth, staffed Saturday through Tuesday, and speak to an NBF representative. To inquire about sponsorships for 2008 NBF Special Events, contact NBF at +1.301.215.6552 or nbf@aabb.org.

These events are made possible not only through the contributions of the individuals participating in the event, but also through generous institutional sponsorships.
