| HIGHLIGHTS: |
Potential Impact of Terrorism on the Blood Supply:
Focus on the process of response and treatment of a terrorist
agent attack from beginning to end. Review possible responses to
the intentional use of a biological agent and potential effect.
Impact of Bacteria Detection of Platelets: Covers the
AABB Standard 5.1.5.1., effective March 2004, with a discussion
on the far-ranging implications on patient safety, platelet
shelf life and the possibility of pre-storage pooling of
whole-blood-derived platelets.
Novel Approaches to Transplantation: Review of cutting
edge transplantation issues including cardiac transplant in
children. Non myeloablative hematopoietic progenitor cell
transplants (called mini-transplants) and an exploration of the
rationale, results and issues related to stem cell transplants.
