Seattle Welcomes Blood Banking Community for AABB Annual Meeting and TXPO
to Discuss Latest Developments Impacting the Field

WHO/WHAT: The AABB 2005 Annual Meeting and TXPO will bring together experts from the blood banking and transfusion medicine community to discuss the latest developments impacting the advancement of transfusion and cellular therapies worldwide.

HIGHLIGHTS: Potential Impact of Terrorism on the Blood Supply: Focus on the process of response and treatment of a terrorist agent attack from beginning to end. Review possible responses to the intentional use of a biological agent and potential effect.

Impact of Bacteria Detection of Platelets: Covers the AABB Standard 5.1.5.1., effective March 2004, with a discussion on the far-ranging implications on patient safety, platelet shelf life and the possibility of pre-storage pooling of whole-blood-derived platelets.

Novel Approaches to Transplantation: Review of cutting edge transplantation issues including cardiac transplant in children. Non myeloablative hematopoietic progenitor cell transplants (called mini-transplants) and an exploration of the rationale, results and issues related to stem cell transplants.
