AABB Chagas' Biovigilance Network

The Chagas’ Disease Biovigilance Network records screening and confirmatory results from the testing of donors for antibodies to Trypanosoma cruzi, the agent of Chagas’ disease. Current data are being provided by those laboratories that are using the test licensed by FDA in January 2007 to screen blood donors for the T. cruzi antibody. These laboratories account for more than 65 percent of the total blood collected in the U.S.

This section includes maps showing the latest confirmed positive cases by ZIP code and a password-protected area for reporting of test results as well as more in-depth monitoring and assessment of Chagas’ activity.

Maps are updated weekly. For the most currently reported data, please use the reports, which access the active Chagas' Biovigilance Network database.

4,181 repeat reactive donations were tested by the supplemental RIPA test for the antibody to T. cruzi, the agent for Chagas’ disease. 1,156 of the repeat reactive donations were RIPA positive; 2,931 were RIPA non-reactive. 58 had indeterminate results. The remaining results are pending. Nineteen testing laboratories reported data into the Chagas Network; twenty testing laboratories now access the Chagas Network for reporting purposes.
