THOR-AABB Workshop on Hemorrhagic Shock Therapies

In this one day workshop the current state of the art in hemorrhagic shock therapies will be presented by a multi-disciplinary group of experts in the fields of transfusion medicine and trauma care. During the workshop the following topics will be presented; results of recently completed transfusion trials, epidemiology of hemorrhagic shock in adults and children, the use of cold stored platelets and whole blood for hemorrhagic shock, the effect of pathogen reduction on hemostatic efficacy of platelets, and novel blood products in development such as dried plasma, platelets, and synthetic red cells. This one day workshop will be a provocative meeting that intends to stimulate dialogue between experts in the fields of transfusion and trauma care, and to ultimately build collaborations that will improve outcomes for patients with hemorrhagic shock.

Manufacturing Cellular Therapies: Challenges, Solutions and Creating Synergy for Success

Exploration of real-world scenarios is critical for dissecting the challenges of implementing cellular therapies in various settings and business models. Developed in partnership with Be The Match BioTherapies, this interactive workshop will explore the perspectives of hospitals, blood centers and small startup companies in both centralized and de-centralized manufacturing models. New cellular-based products, including exosomes, CAR T cellular therapies and treatments using circulating tumor cells will be explored in a highly interactive format. Audience response technology will be incorporated with discussion groups to enhance the collaborative learning environment.
At the completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Participants will be able to evaluate (interpret) complex business models and interdependencies of cellular therapies manufacturing from donor selection to logistics and the technical aspects of product manufacturing.
- Participants will be able to apply their expertise and experience to solving challenges in product implementation including the development of collaborative business models with both partners and competitors.
- Participants will be able to discuss potential applications of new cellular -based products such as exosomes, circulating tumor cells and recognize potential new immunotherapeutic treatments in cancer biology and drug response.
