Event Description: Iron depletion in blood donors is a frequent sequela of blood donation, and its health consequences are not entirely understood. Several recent studies have described the nature and frequency of this complication in donors, and operational and controlled trials of approaches such as iron supplementation to mitigate iron depletion in donors have recently been completed. This program will review three recent publications from US and European investigators, and conclude with a panel discussion on what blood collectors should now be doing.
