Who is Eligible to Become a CABP?

The infographic below gives you an overview of the eligibility requirements when applying for the CABP.

2-Year degree + 5 years work experience, 4-year degree + 3 years work experience, Masters degree + 2 years work experience, or Doctoral degree + 1 year

Examples of Acceptable Education

MD, DO, PhD, or other doctoral degree or equivalent; or MA, MS, MPH, or other master’s degree or equivalent; or BS, BA, or other four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent; or AA, AS, AAS, or other two-year undergraduate degree or equivalent.

*Examples of Acceptable Certifications

ASCP (e.g., SBB, BB, MLS), ASQ (CQA, CMQ/OM, CQE, etc.), OCN, QIA, RAC.

Steps to Becoming a CABP

To start off with, we recommend reviewing and downloading the Certification Handbook. This summarizes everything you need to know including how to apply, fee schedule, preparing for the exam and more. It is an essential resource when pursuing your CABP credential.

Steps to Becoming a CABP: 1) meet eligibility requirements, 2) complete application, 3) application approval, 4) schedule online proctored exam, 5) prepare for exam, 6) take exam, 7) become CABP, 8) recertification

Submitting Your Application and the Application Process

All candidates must complete an online application with the requested documentation and fee. Candidates will be asked to provide supporting documentation of their education and work experience. Examples of acceptable documentation include:

  • Education – Unofficial transcript showing conveyance of degree or copy of diploma.
  • Work Experience – Resume/CV.
  • Additional Certification – copy of official certification or link to certification directory.
  • Confirmation of Acceptance of Code of Conduct – Attestation in the online application.

You will have the opportunity to start and /or complete the application and save it before submitting.

Start Your Application

Once submitted, you will receive confirmation of submission of the application immediately and will learn your application status within ten business days. During that period, you might be asked for clarifications to your application and/or additional documentation. If your application is not accepted, you will receive feedback as to why it was not accepted and a refund of the fees (minus the $150 application review fee, which is non-refundable).

CABP Certification Fees

The CABP certification fees payable when submitting your application are as follows:

AABB Members - $395, Non-Members - $495

This includes a $150 nonrefundable application review fee.

To maintain their credentialing, successful CABPs must then meet the recertification requirements and submit a recertification application with applicable fees before their certification expires (three [3] years from the initial awarding of the certification or recertification terms thereafter). These recertification fees are as follows:

AABB Members - $175, Non-Members $225

The CABP Exam

The CABP Exam is available 24/7 worldwide, 4hr online proctored exam, multiple-choice questions, results within 72hrs

Those whose CABP applications are approved will receive an email that provides instructions on how to schedule their exam. Candidates must take the exam within six months of their application being approved. In addition, the exam must be successfully completed within one year of application approval or applicants are required to reapply.

If your application is not accepted, you will receive feedback as to why it was not accepted and a refund of the fees (minus the non-refundable $150 application review fee).
