Established in 1997 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Advisory Committee on Blood Safety and Availability makes recommendations to the secretary and the assistant secretary for health regarding blood and blood products. Members of the committee — which includes representatives from the blood community — help define public health parameters around safety and availability of the blood supply; address broad public health, ethical and legal issues related to blood safety; and examine the implications for blood safety and availability of various economic factors affecting product cost and supply.
This section includes information on current and past committee meetings, including meeting summaries, resources and analysis as well as quick links to other relevant materials.
