Bethesda, Md. — AABB is pleased to announce the appointment of Julia Zimmerman as its Vice President, Membership, Meetings, Communications & Corporate Affairs. Zimmerman has served in the role on an interim basis since November 2017, spearheading efforts to build strategic partnership plans for the AABB Annual Meeting, further developing AABB’s social media presence and laying the foundation for AABB’s upcoming website redesign.
“Julia’s leadership has proven to be invaluable during a time of transition both within the organization and in the membership,” said Debra BenAvram, AABB’s CEO. “Julia’s vision and experience make her an ideal match to lead AABB’s efforts to meet the changing needs of our members and I am excited to partner with her on that journey.”
Zimmerman has supported AABB in various capacities since 2014, initially as an independent consultant for AABB’s marketing and meetings departments and as the Interim Vice President of Membership, Meetings, Communications & Corporate Affairs. During that time, Zimmerman developed annual marketing plans across numerous AABB divisions, including Membership, Patient Blood Management, Cellular Therapies, Accreditation and Consulting. She also served as project lead for the creation of a new app for AABB’s Annual Meeting.
“It is an honor to officially join AABB during this incredibly exciting time for the association," said Zimmerman. "Every day, across the globe, AABB members are leading the charge on new advancements and discoveries to better protect the health and safety of patients and donors. I'm looking forward to working alongside our new CEO, Debra BenAvram, and the rest of our leadership team as we enrich the value of the AABB membership experience.”
Prior to joining AABB, Zimmerman amassed more than a decade of corporate and nonprofit experience. She previously served as Director of Communications for Elegance and Simplicity Wedding and Event Designers, Inc., Washington, DC’s premier eco-friendly event company; and in communications and marketing roles for the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society, a leading global organization for the regulation of healthcare products, and the Parenteral Drug Association, an international nonprofit providing science and technology information for the pharmaceutical community. Zimmerman also served previously as a financial advisor for Edward Jones Investments, managing more than $7 million in client assets.
