The Donor Hemovigilance System is used to track and reduce the occurrence of adverse events associated with blood donation. Created through collaboration among the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Armed Services Blood Program and the private sector — including AABB, America's Blood Centers, the American Red Cross, Blood Systems Inc. and hospital blood collection centers — the module allows participating facilities to enter data into an web-based electronic data collection system and to use that information to identify trends. Through its working groups, AABB will produce a comprehensive review of aggregate data, including an annual system report, and make recommendations regarding best practices.
