After participating in this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Review fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia.
- Describe how serologic testing can aid clinical management and selection of platelet products for transfusion.
- Describe how HPA genotyping can be helpful in differential diagnosis of FNAIT.
- Describe how the platelet donors are screened to identify those whose platelet products may be useful for HPA alloimmunized patients.
This program will first explore the clinical diagnosis of fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia. It will then dive into the laboratory testing that helps support the diagnosis of FNAIT with special attention given not only to serologic testing but also molecular testing. The program will also explore recommended evidence-based treatment options for FNAIT based on the patient’s presenting signs/symptoms and taking platelet unit availability into consideration. The speakers will use clinical cases to help emphasize important testing and clinical points.
