    Program Description

Patient Blood Management is a multi-disciplinary approach to optimize patients who may need a transfusion. An emphasis on improving blood utilization and decreasing costs has led the healthcare industry to focus on new methods and strategies to examine blood management in patients. Pre-operative Anemia Programs are a component of the AABB Standards for Patient Blood Management and a key step in attaining The Joint Commission/AABB Patient Blood Management Certification. These programs can lead to significant patient benefits and cost savings. But how do you get started? This program will look at a hospital-based pre-operative anemia program and describe some “lessons-learned” and pointers for those exploring this initiative for their organization.
