Complimentary Hot Topic AABB Discussion Will Explore Donor Eligibility Considerations for 2021

AABB is offering complimentary registration
to members for an upcoming Hot Topic discussion that will examine key donor eligibility considerations for the new year. Jed Gorlin, MD, MBA, vice president at Innovative Blood Resources, will open the program with a discussion of considerations and strategies to address the impact of COVID-19 vaccines on blood donation, including convalescent plasma donors.
Brian Custer, PhD, MPH, director of Epidemiology and Policy Science at Vitalant Research Institute and vice president of Research and Scientific Program at Vitalant, will continue the program with a summary and next steps for practices around HIV detection in the era of antiretroviral therapy and pre-exposure prophylaxis. Finally, AABB has invited Peter Marks, MD, PhD; and Nicole Verdun, MD, from the Food and Drug Administration, who will provide an update on the agency’s deferral policies for men who have sex with men, as well as ongoing studies.
Following the presentations, Sharon Carayiannis, BSMT(ASCP)HP, Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs, AABB, will moderate a question-and-answer period where speakers will field questions from the audience.
