Janet Woodcock Named Acting FDA Commissioner

Janet Woodcock, MD, will serve as acting commissioner
of Food and Drugs following the resignation of Stephen Hahn, MD. Woodcock joined the Food and Drug Administration in 1984, serving in several roles within the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) before being named director for Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) in 1994. Between 2004 and 2007, she held several positions in the Office of the Commissioner before returning as director of CDER in 2007. Beginning in 2020, Woodcock split her time advising Operation Warp Speed on advancing COVID-19 therapeutics and serving as the Principal Medical Advisor to the Commissioner on key priorities on behalf of the Office of the Commissioner.
