AABB’s Virtual Journal Club to Examine Blood Utilization During the COVID-19 Pandemic
April 27, 2021
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, some COVID‐19 inpatients will continue to require transfusion support. The next edition of the
AABB Virtual Journal Club will explore the results of a
study published recently in Transfusion that examined blood utilization among COVID-19 patients during the initial stages of the pandemic. Investigators also merged utilization data with a COVID‐19 patient database to investigate the clinical demographic characteristics of transfused COVID‐19 inpatients relative to non‐transfused ones. According to the authors, the results may assist blood banks in inventory management.
