AABB News Looks Back on COVID-19 Pandemic

May 04, 2021

The May issue of AABB News looks back on the pandemic and reviews how the blood and biotherapies community has responded to the crisis. One feature article examines how blood centers shifted their procedures to collect blood during this unprecedented time while another covers COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) and how blood centers began collecting CCP very quickly to provide a bridge treatment for patients without any other recourse. Another feature article describes how social media has become an even more important means of staying connected to one's colleagues and sharing information during the pandemic.

In addition, AABB CMO Claudia Cohn, MD, PhD, discusses some remaining questions about the use of CCP to treat COVID-19 and the Transfusion Medicine Section Coordinating Committee presents a Q&A with Paul Molfese, BB(ASCP). Another column explores how some National Blood Foundation grant recipients are contributing to research on COVID-19. The White Coats column profiles Hua Shan, MD, PhD.
