AABB’s CMO Urges the Public to Donate in National Media Outlets

AABB’s Chief Medical Officer Claudia S. Cohn, MD, PhD, has spoken with several national media organizations as part of a blood community-wide effort to encourage blood donation and extend the blood supply in response to the current shortage. Outlets including the
Boston Globe,
USA Today,
ABC News and
NewsNation have included the current blood shortage in their coverage this week, highlighting the unprecedented scale of the shortage and illustrating that – if demand continues at its current pace – that there may be potential implications for patient care.
AABB continues to
partner with America’s Blood Centers and the American Red Cross to encourage the public to make and keep an appointment to donate. AABB is also collaborating with peer professional associations and hospital partners to share resources and strategies that hospitals, surgeons, operating room staff and emergency room staff can employ to extend the blood supply.
