For the leaders of Ashland, the decision to join AABB’s Corporate Partner Program was an easy one. “Ashland’s number one priority is always safety, so Ashland loved the opportunity to work with AABB to help support safety standards,” Emily Pullen, marketing and product specialist at Ashland, told AABB News.
Ashland was one of the first corporations to join the AABB Corporate Partner program when it was launched this summer and is proud to be an inaugural member of the program. According to Pullen, Ashland became interested in AABB’s Corporate Partner Program because AABB is such an integral part of blood bank and transfusion standards. In addition, AABB and its members are integral to Ashland’s mission to make sure that there are guidelines in place to ensure the safety of blood irradiation and illumination.
Ashland’s mission is to develop practical, innovative and elegant solutions to complex problems in applied chemistry. “Ashland is always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and advancing the competitiveness of our customers across diverse industries,” Pullen said.
Currently, Ashland offers two blood safety product lines under the Rad-Sure label for blood irradiation and blood product illumination.
“Ashland’s innovations help provide assurance that blood products have been properly irradiated and illuminated,” said Pullen. “This independent assurance allows for ease-of-mind for nurses when they transfuse blood products and helps ensure the safety of the blood products after irradiation and illumination.”
In terms of the future, Pullen said that AABB members can expect to see an illumination indicator for UVA pathogen reduction systems become available in the United States in the near future. This system is already available and in use outside of the U.S., Pullen added.
“Ashland prides itself on our high quality products and ability to create practical and innovative solutions,” said Pullen. “We encourage AABB members to reach out to us with any questions, comments or concerns. We are always solving.”
