Cellular Therapy Professionals Challenge Themselves in #AABB21’s “Solve It! Scenarios in Cellular Therapy” Session

October 19, 2021

One of the AABB Annual Meeting’s perennial favorite sessions, “Solve It! Scenarios in Cellular Therapy,” returned for 2021 this afternoon. The interactive session, which has become one of the most popular – and thought-provoking – is designed to challenge cellular therapy professionals on their knowledge of their subject area.

The session was moderated by the two program chairs: Federico Rodriguez Quezada, SBB, MLS(ASCP), from the University of Florida Health Shands Cancer Hospital; and Ronit Slotky, PhD, from Hackensack University Medical Center. This year’s panelists were Wanxing Cui, MD, PhD, from MedStar Georgetown University; Indira Guleria, PhD, from Harvard Medical School; Brigham and Women's Hospital; Mike Halpenny, from Canadian Blood Services; Thomas Spitzer, MD, from Massachusetts General Hospital; and Matthew Wilgo, from New England Cord Blood Bank, Inc.

As has become an AABB tradition, the “Solve It! Scenarios in Cellular Therapy” session used presentations of real-world case scenarios to quiz (and sometimes stump) cellular therapy professionals through an interactive and collegial format.

This year, five challenging scenarios were presented; session participants were asked to respond through the interactive tool in the Annual Meeting platform by answering how each case would be likely handled at their institution. After the answers were tallied, panel members described what their institution would do to handle each scenario.

At times, the session included some lively discussions about the optimal treatment options for each case – the type of conversation that has helped to make this session a returning favorite for AABB Annual Meeting attendees. We hope this session is back – in-person, once again – for the 2022 AABB Annual Meeting in Orlando.  Scenario from Solve It! Scenarios in Cell Therapy
