Robert Califf Nominated as FDA Commissioner

November 22, 2021

President Joe Biden recently nominated former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Robert M. Califf, MD, to return as the agency’s head. Califf, a cardiologist, briefly led FDA between 2016-17 before joining Duke University School of Medicine as a professor of medicine and Verily Life Sciences, where he serves as head of clinical policy. If confirmed, Califf will succeed Janet Woodcock, MD, who has led the agency in an acting role since January.
