AABB’s Transfusion Safety and Patient Blood Management (TS/PBM) Subsection recently released the latest article in its “PBM Column” series, “How Do I Maintain An Adequate Inventory and Avoid Wastage During Normal Times and in a Pandemic?”

Gammon, MD, medical director at OneBlood, describes how blood centers define mild, moderate and severe shortages and outlines potential strategies that hospitals could implement to address shortages based on their severity. Gammon also highlights how the use of data science methodologies can help hospitals to develop demand models that help to predict future values on previously observed data.
