AABB Nominating Committee Announces Slate of Candidates for 2022-23 Board of Directors

The AABB Nominating Committee is pleased to present the slate of candidates to serve as the Association’s 2022-23 Board of Directors. The slate includes the Committee’s recommendations to fill both the officer and at-large Board positions for the 2022-23 Association year.  

The Committee recommends the following members to serve as officers:  

  • Aaron Tobian, MD, PhD, for president-elect. 
  • Meghan Delaney, DO, MPH, for vice president.  
  • Jose Cancelas, MD, for secretary. 

The Committee recommends the following at-large Board members for re-election: 

  • Delisa English, MBA, for position #2. 
  • Magali Fontaine, MD, PhD, for position #4. 
  • Phil Accooe, MLS(ASCP)SBB, CLS, for position #6. 
  • Celina Montemayor-Garcia, MD, PhD, for position #8.

The slate also includes recommendations for this year’s open at-large director positions:  

  • Dawn Ward, MD, for position #3.
  • Suzanne Thibodeaux, MD, PhD, for position #10. 

After extensive deliberation, the AABB Nominating Committee selected a diverse and talented slate of individuals. As in recent years, the Committee decided to put forward an unopposed slate. This carefully considered decision is consistent with best practices in association governance, particularly when striving to increase diversity and add new perspectives to leadership. The Committee is confident that this year’s slate, together with the returning Board members, comprises a group of members with rich and varied backgrounds, and optimally positioned to lead AABB with knowledge, commitment and experience. 

Per AABB's bylaws, additional nominees for the open at-large director positions may be submitted using the petition process. Instructions for submitting a nomination by petition and related submission requirements are available on AABB's website. The deadline to submit nominations by petition is June 30 at 11:59 p.m. ET.  

The membership will be asked to confirm the slate in early August, with results published in September. The 2022-23 AABB Board of Directors will be installed during the 2022 AABB Annual Meeting in October.
