Norway to Assess Changes to Donor Eligibility for MSM

May 31, 2022

Norway’s Ministry of Health and Care Services will commission the Norwegian Directorate of Health to assess changes in the blood donation deferral period for men who have sex with men (MSM), the Ministry announced (Norwegian) last week. Under Norway’s current donor eligibility process, MSM are eligible to donate blood 12 months after their last sexual contact with another man. The assessment will consider changes in donor eligibility made in other countries, including Sweden and Denmark. The Norwegian Directorate of Health will complete the assessment by April 2023.
