The AABB Quality System Essentials (QSEs) were written to apply to all disciplines for which AABB sets voluntary standards but can be applied to any field where quality systems are implemented. The QSEs were developed over a 2-year period by members of the Standards Program Committee and the Accreditation Program Committee on the basis of good medical practice and, when available, scientific and evidence-based data. The development process included an open comment period as well as vetting and approval by the AABB Board of Directors twice during development. Inclusion of the QSEs in every set of AABB Standards began in 2023 and has continued.
The requirements in this book can be followed by a facility located anywhere in the world, but they do not preempt federal, state, and/or local laws and regulations. It is intended to be particularly useful to those facilities pursuing certification through the AABB Quality Management Systems program. For each of the 10 "chapters" in the QSEs, contents include:
