BUNDLE Standards for Relationship Testing Laboratories, 17th Edition – Print and Guidance

This bundle provides access to the 17th edition of Standards for Relationship Testing Laboratories and Guidance for Standards for Relationship Testing Laboratories.

The 17th edition of Standards for Relationship Testing Laboratories features new and revised requirements in areas such as employee qualification, facility monitoring of potentially fabricated documents, and the identification of non-chain of custody cases.

Significant Changes to the 17th Edition

• New Standard 1.4.2 ensures that accredited organizations have plans in place to identify threats associated with sample integrity and the infrastructure of the technology and communication systems.
• New Standard 3.7 ensures that facilities monitor their critical technology infrastructure and that they function as expected including defined checks.
• New Standard 5.2.1.2.1 ensures that laboratories using publicly accessible databases do so under the agreement of the terms of service that exist at that time. This provides coverage to the user concerning privacy requirements that are required to be followed.
• New Standard 5.2.5.2 ensures that reports created for genetic genealogy cases that have profiles obtained from the publicly available space where identity is not verified are identified as such.

Guidance for Standards for Relationship Testing Laboratories includes verbatim requirements from the RT Standards interspersed with guidance. Language from the RT Standards is presented; when there is appropriate guidance for that standard, the guidance language follows the standard with the heading "Guidance."" This format allows the reader to see both the requirement and the associated guidance side by side.

Please note that there is no guidance for some standards. The Relationship Testing Standards Committee has chosen to focus Guidance for Standards for Relationship Testing Laboratories on those issues that may require additional context and/or examples to assist in attaining compliance with the Standards.
