AABB interviewed Nichole Miller, MSTM, SBB(ASCP), senior director of biomaterial operations at Versiti, a participating organization in the Biotherapies Pavilion at the 2025 AABB Annual Meeting. Read the interview below to learn more about the Versiti team.
My name is Nichole Miller, MSTM, SBB(ASCP); I am the senior director of biomaterials operations for Versiti and Versiti Clinical Trial Services. I have held multiple roles throughout my 17-year career at Versiti with increasing scope and complexity, including research technologist at Versiti's Blood Research Institute, innovation and technical specialist for production and distribution in blood services, donor management supervisor, specialized production manager and director, and chief of staff.
In my current role, I drive operational excellence in providing high-quality biomaterials for research, further manufacturing, and clinical development. I am also the organizational official for Salus IRB, an independent review board that specializes in single and multi-site oncology, device, drug, and social, behavioral and educational research review services. I completed my specialist in blood banking certification in 2014, master's degree in transfusion medicine in 2018 and Harvard Business School's executive education program for leadership development in 2023.
One of Versiti's core goals is to deepen our expertise and broaden our services in autologous and allogeneic cellular staring materials, enabled manufacturing, and storing and distributing biotherapies. The cell therapy space is very dynamic and, as a blood collection facility, we are uniquely positioned to be a strategic partner for researchers, manufacturers and developers all along the production pathway. I am most excited about unlocking Versiti's potential as a supplier and enabled manufacturer of biotherapies.
AABB has been a tremendous resource in helping Versiti navigate its path forward in biotherapies. My current two favorite resources are Standards for Cellular Therapy Services and Getting Started in Processing for Biotherapies. These resources have been very helpful in understanding the current thinking and requirements needed to move forward in this space. In addition, AABB’s Certified Advanced Biotherapies Professional (CABP) certification program has elevated several key Versiti team members' knowledge in cell therapy.
A few key members of our team have earned their CABP:
Becoming a CABP is a mark of distinction, establishing that qualified professionals have demonstrated – through a certification exam – that they have the necessary knowledge to credibly practice in the field of biotherapies.
It is really exciting to have these three individuals with CABPs working at Versiti and bringing their expertise to critical pillars of cell therapy. Jessica highlights her knowledge gained through the CABP program by providing guidance around regulations and strategy to our executive team and throughout Versiti's regulatory team for cell therapy. Adam handles tissue products, including autologous and allogeneic apheresis products, along with bone marrow and cord blood. The process of studying for the exam allowed him to expand his knowledge base and opportunities within the organization. He believes the required CE allows him to maintain a working knowledge of different advances in the field beyond what he'd be exposed to in his day-to-day. Sorelle leads the nursing team at Versiti who handle autologous cell therapy collections and provides hope and amazing care for patients during their collections.
I am looking forward to the energetic, passionate and educational environment that focuses on improving and innovating the blood banking, biotherapy and cell therapy field. I am also looking forward to making connections and developing partnerships with those looking to enhance their offerings in the cell therapy space.
