As you join the AABB community, you're becoming part of a global network of professionals committed to advancing the field of blood and biotherapies. Our association's strength lies in bringing together diverse perspectives across disciplines. By welcoming Cord Blood Association (CBA) members into AABB, we enrich our collective expertise and ensure the continuity of key CBA initiatives.
AABB will continue to provide the support, resources and connections you need to stay engaged, grow professionally and contribute to the ongoing advancement of the cord blood field.
AABB is excited to bring Cord Blood Connect (CBC), the annual meeting of the CBA, into the AABB Annual Meeting programming. Beginning in 2025, CBC will now take place as part of the AABB Annual Meeting, offering expanded educational content and deeper connections across the blood and biotherapies field.

"AABB has created a space for our members to continue their engagement in the cord blood community while preserving the core mission and initiatives we advanced through the CBA. This provides a clear path for CBA members to stay connected and continue our work advancing the field."
- Joanne Kurtzberg, MD
Cord Blood Association President and AABB Member
AABB Membership offers a number of benefits and resources to support you throughout your career. Members can connect through a variety of volunteer opportunities including committees, subsections, the mentorship program and more.
AABB is forming a new Cord Blood Committee to continue the mission of the Cord Blood Association and help shape the future of cord blood and birth tissue therapies. Chaired by Dr. Joanne Kurtzberg, the committee will serve as a strategic resource to the field, promoting clinical and translational research, advancing education, informing public policy, and strengthening global collaboration.
AABB Committees help ensure that the information and knowledge that we share with the membership, public and media is timely and accurate. Committee participation is open to AABB members, and we welcome those passionate about sustaining and growing the cord blood field to express their interest.

The Cord Blood Subsection serves as a forum to discuss and address key issues in the field, including public donor recruitment and screening/testing, manufacturing, storage and transport challenges, licensure, international considerations, and private and family banking. The subsection meets virtually on the first Thursday of each month 1:00-2:00 p.m. ET.
Subsections are member-driven groups that focus on specific topic areas within a larger AABB Section-in this case, the Cellular Therapies Section. They identify challenges and develop resources to meet the evolving needs of the field. Participation is open to all AABB individual members, who may join any subsection(s) of interest.
"Having held leadership positions in both CBA and AABB, I recognize the strength of our shared mission and vision. This partnership is built on a solid foundation, and together, we will continue to advance the field, uphold the highest standards of quality, and accelerate the clinical application of cord blood and birthing tissues to improve patient outcomes."
