AABB Honors Emergency Medical Service Workers During EMS Week

The Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) is proud to honor and support emergency medical service (EMS) personnel – both during EMS Week 2025 and throughout the year. AABB salutes and thanks dedicated EMS professionals, who play a vital role in emergency response and life-saving care for patients in need.

The EMS Week 2025 theme, “Honoring Our Past. Forging Our Future,” reflects both the legacy and continued innovation of EMS professionals throughout the country. AABB applauds the critical and evolving partnership between EMS personnel and the blood community, who work together to ensure that blood is always available for patients experiencing trauma and that safe and timely blood transfusions can be performed as soon as possible.

AABB is pleased to support dedicated professionals providing prehospital transfusion, an increasingly important area of health care. This practice is saving lives and improving patient outcomes. AABB is now offering standards and accreditation for emergency prehospital transfusion, designed to expand access to safe and effective prehospital blood transfusion.

“AABB’s new standards allow EMS agencies and medical care providers who perform prehospital and out-of-hospital transfusions to demonstrate compliance with approved standards and obtain accreditation. By addressing regulatory, financial and logistical challenges, we continue to pave the way for nationwide implementation, which will save more lives,” said Audra L. Taylor, SBB, chair of AABB’s Standards for Emergency Prehospital and Scheduled Out-of-Hospital Transfusion Committee.

AABB encourages its members and partners to show appreciation to EMS personnel during this week and beyond by highlighting their contributions and exploring opportunities for continued collaboration.
