QuidelOrthoOverview of DAT testing. Review the purpose of DAT testing, hemolysis process including the complement cascade, and immune hemolytic anemias. Traditional reagents and newer technologies such as CAT data will be explained using FDA approved data. Testing algorithm and clinical value of results using recent publications.

After attending this program, participants should be able to:

  • Define hemolysis process and hemolytic anemia implications.
  • Identify and describe the various reagent types for the DAT.
  • Describe the predictive value of the DAT.
  • Apply the significance, clinical value, and the role of the test in a patient setting.

    Tony has worked in the blood banking industry for over 40 years with much of it in the commercial blood bank reagent manufacturers sector with hospital experience as a clinical laboratory scientist full and part time on weekends. Tony has provided technical support to laboratories throughout the world utilizing immunohematology reagents and test systems. Having tested some of the most challenging immunohematology antibody problems as part of his reference laboratory experience, he has a wealth of knowledge about blood group systems. Tony has been a long-time member of both ISBT and AABB and an active participant in the AABB, serving on committees and on the AABB Board of Directors. Additionally, he has contributed as a presenter to AABB educational programs. Currently he is a consultant for transfusion medicine with a focus on immunohematology, donor screening and education.
