Vitalant, NMDP Open Stem Cell Collection Center

Vitalant, an AABB institutional member based in Arizona, and NMDP recently celebrated the grand opening of Arizona’s first stem cell collection site within a blood donation center. The Vitalant – NMDP Collection Center is located within Vitalant’s Tempe blood donation center and offers a new option for blood stem cell donors in the Southwest.

Vitalant staff at the center will perform up to 225 stem cell collections annually for donors, which are scheduled by NMDP. These lifesaving stem cells are then couriered to NMDP partner transplant centers for patients.

The Tempe facility is one of only eight NMDP partner centers in the U.S. and the first in Arizona, helping reduce the burden of travel to better accommodate donors’ schedules when timely donor collection is paramount for a successful outcome.
