ASCP Launches 2024 Vacancy Survey

April 03, 2024

The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) recently launched the 2024 Vacancy Survey, which seeks to determine the extent and distribution of workforce shortages within the nation’s medical laboratories. The survey will remain open until April 30.

The ASCP Vacancy Survey collects data from the nation’s clinical laboratory workforce, specifically those best able to discuss vacancies of clinical laboratory staff at their current place of employment. To collect data on emerging technologies, the 2024 survey also includes questions on artificial intelligence (AI), to determine the current and potential uses of AI in the laboratory. All responses are confidential, and ASCP will only report data in aggregate.

Since 1988, ASCP’s wage and vacancy surveys have helped inform academic, government and industry labor analysts. Historically, the results of these surveys have served as a basis for additional research on laboratory recruitment, retention, education, marketing, certification and advocacy. Findings from the 2022 Vacancy Survey are available in the December 2021 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Pathology.
