April Issue of AABB News Focuses on Military Transfusion Medicine

April 10, 2024

The April issue of AABB News shines a spotlight on the contributions of military transfusion medicine. Drawing on decades of research and innovation, military health care providers have played a pivotal role in advancing patient care and shaping medical practices, both on and off the battlefield.

This month’s first feature discusses the benefits of walking blood banks and their potential to advance blood availability for both military and civilian settings. In the second feature, military leaders explore the evolution of whole blood transfusions and discuss the benefits of using whole blood in both civilian trauma care and military medicine.

Moreover, this issue highlights two Army veterans: 2023 ASBP Lifetime Achievement Award recipient U.S. Army Col. Richard Gonzales, and U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and quadruple amputee Travis Mills. The issue also includes a “White Coats” interview with Glen Michael Fitzpatrick, PhD, who has more than 40 years of military and civilian blood banking and biomedical experience.
