The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued an unpublished final rule on Tuesday that updates Medicare hospice payment rates for fiscal year (FY) 2025.
In the final rule, CMS summarized comments from the public, including those from the blood community, on the potential implementation of a separate payment mechanism to account for high-intensity palliative care services (including blood transfusion) provided under the hospice benefit.
The agency stated that it is still reviewing comments and recommendations but welcomed feedback on this issue through the hospice policy mailbox at hospicepolicy@cms.hhs.gov.
