AABB will join the National Whole Blood Summit to share details on the Association’s new Standards for Emergency Prehospital and Scheduled Out-of-Hospital Transfusions (EPSOHT Standards). The Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) is hosting the summit, which will take place July 15 in San Antonio, Texas.
Audra Taylor, SBB, vice president of blood operations at South Texas Blood and Tissue and chair of AABB’s EPSOHT Standards Committee, will present on the development and implementation of these standards during a session on prehospital blood transfusion. The session will also cover prehospital clinical practice guidelines and include updates from the Prehospital Blood Transfusion Coalition.
Additional sessions will focus on the economics of blood, applications across care environments, supply issues and disaster preparedness.
STRAC encourages stakeholders involved in providing prehospital whole blood to patients, including paramedics, department chiefs, training officers, blood bankers and trauma surgeons, to attend and support collaboration and system development.
