  • Program Description

    This program will provide an overview of warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia (WAIHA), including clinical laboratory presentation and clinical management. The speaker will conclude with case-based reviews.

    Learning Objectives

    After participating in this educational activity, participants should be able to:

    • Discuss the pathogenesis and mechanism of red cell destruction and autoantibody production.
    • Differential between the various Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia.
    • Explain the clinical assessment and laboratory tests of WAIHA.
    • Review treatment options and therapeutic approaches.

    Faculty Biography

    Hind Kurbaj received her master's in Immunohematology and Biotechnology from George Washington University. She currently works as the Program Director in Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy at MD Anderson Cancer Center Transfusion Services in Houston, Texas.

    Dr. Linda Song is Assistant Professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. She board-certified in Transfusion Medicine after completing her Transfusion Medicine/Blood Bank fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Additionally, she completed her AP/CP residency training at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Her passions in transfusion medicine (and pathology in general) are pathology medical education of pathology and non-pathology providers as well as professional ambassadorship and systems/operations improvement.
