Relationship Testing Collection Training Module

Earn a certificate of training from AABB and be included on the list of qualified collection suppliers, which is updated monthly and made available to AABB-accredited relationship testing laboratories worldwide in the members-only section of the AABB website.

AABB offers a certificate course for individuals who would like to be recognized as AABB-trained sample collectors for relationship testing purposes. This web-based course was developed by subject-matter and quality expert, Marsha Deitz, MBA, MLS (ASCP), CQA (ASQ), AABB's director of relationship testing and forensics.

Program Goal

To educate collectors on the requirements for collection of samples, improve quality, and provide accredited facilities with resources for collection of samples.

Learning Outcomes

The course will teach individuals the proper controlled process for obtaining a sample for relationship testing. Topics include:

• Quality control
• Consent
• Identification requirements
• Sampling
• Chain of custody documentation
• Common errors
• Secure transport to the testing laboratory
• Requirements for immigration cases
• New: Restrictions for immigration testing
• Promotional material requirements

Course Format

• Learn directly from AABB's director of relationship testing and forensics.
• Self-paced, online, audio-visual program that takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete.
• A pre-test is provided (as a pdf) to review prior to watching the training video.
• Learners are given a test after viewing the video. A score of 80% or higher on the test is required for successful completion.
• Learners are given two attempts to pass the test. If the learner fails the first attempt, he/she will be prompted to review the video again before completing the second attempt. If unsuccessful on the second attempt, AABB provides an opportunity for a retake, which provides two additional attempts. See "Retake Fee" below for more information.
• Successful individuals will earn a Certificate of Training from AABB and, provided that the individual complies with the requirements provided during the training course, will be included on the list of qualified collection suppliers updated monthly and made available to AABB Accredited Relationship Testing Laboratories worldwide in the members-only section of the AABB website. The certificate is valid for the duration of the current edition of the AABB Standards for Relationship Testing Laboratories (valid through Dec. 31, 2027). AABB reserves the right to remove non-compliant collectors from the list.

How to Register & Access

Individual Registration

Register online through the AABB Store. Once purchased, immediate access is granted via the AABB education platform at https://education.aabb.org (use the username and password submitted when registering for the program). Within the AABB education platform, the program is found under "My Courses" after clicking the "My Account" section. An automated email will also be sent that provides the access link and instructions.

Already Received Your Access Email? Log in here to access the program, or reprint your certificate. If you experience technical issues logging in, please contact eLearning@aabb.org.

Please note: Access to the program belongs exclusively to the person named during the registration process. That person may transfer the registration to someone else, as long as the program has not been accessed and/or completed. The transfer must be in writing from the original registrant and must be received no later than the final registration date (send via email to eLearning@aabb.org). Once the program is completed and a certificate has been issued, the certificate cannot be transferred.

Institutional Registration

Complete and return the Institutional Purchase Registration Form with payment. Payment confirmation will be provided within 2-5 business days for institutional orders.

Institutions will receive a 15% discount (20% for AABB Premium Corporate Partners) from the list price when purchasing four (4) or more registrations at the same time. Complete and return the Institutional Purchase Registration Form with payment. Payment confirmation will be provided within 2-5 business days for institutional orders.

Retake Fee
Learners are provided two (2) attempts to successfully pass the certificate program test. If after both attempts a learner does not achieve the minimum score, the learner will not be able to receive a certificate of completion. AABB provides the opportunity for a retake (two additional attempts) at a reduced price ($45 member/nonmember). Retakes are only valid through the current certificate program edition and cannot be extended or applied to the next edition of the certificate program. Please contact the AABB eLearning department at eLearning@aabb.org for a retake registration form.

Program Waiver/Grandfathering

AABB does not grandfather in any existing credentials or offer training reciprocity for any credentials, prior training or related experience for the Relationship Testing Collection Training Module. In order to receive the certificate of training, all registrants must successfully complete the program.

Cancellation

All cancellations must be made in writing and sent to eLearning@aabb.org. There will be no refunds for cancellations if the program is accessed.
