AABB has partnered with The George Washington University (GW) to offer biomedical-healthcare professionals a certificate program in cellular therapies:
The AABB Cellular Therapies Certificate Program has been recognized as an ASAE 2019 Power of A Gold Award winner, for the value it creates by being a training resource in the Cellular Therapies communities.
This program was made possible in part by a grant from the National Blood Foundation.
This program is not a preparatory course for the AABB Certified Advanced Biotherapies Professional (CABP) certification program. It can be used as a foundational basis for some CABP exam domains; please refer to the CABP syllabus for suggested readings to prepare for the CABP exam.
The program is intended for, but not limited to, individuals with a basic biological or medical science background. The online self-paced program contains professionally narrated presentations, videos, animations and additional reading resources.
Scenario-based questions are included in each of the modules to assess students’ understanding of the content presented. A review of all slides in each module and a passing score of 80% for all assessments is required. See a list of the contributing faculty and planners, their bios, and financial disclosures.
For more information, including learning objectives, please review the program syllabus.

99% of participants said the certificate program had a “moderate to high impact” on their competence/knowledge. The certificate program is also being used by regulatory agencies to train inspection staff.
“We have a bone marrow transplant program at the hospital where I work. This program helped me gain a better understanding of the whole process, from donor selection to infusion."
“As a recent graduate, the certificate program provided me with an in-depth knowledge about the cellular therapies field and its regulations.”
“I’m taking details from modules 1-4 to add to our annual competency assessment and initial training of new staff. We are going to use it to train our entire staff.”
AABB is committed to program excellence and reviews all program offerings. The AABB Cellular Therapies Certificate program is reviewed on a quarterly basis and updated as needed.
