Transfusion Service Quality Assurance Manager

How long have you been an AABB Member?

I’ve been an AABB member since 2018.

In which AABB volunteer activities are you currently active? In which have you participated?

I’m currently active in the AABB Mentoring Program. Although I haven’t participated in any other AABB volunteer activities, I look forward to participating in the future!

What motivates you to volunteer?

Volunteering for AABB allows me to give back to a community that has really empowered and encouraged me. I have had so many great mentors throughout my career, and I absolutely love that I have the opportunity to mentor others, pass on knowledge and make a difference.

How has your volunteer work impacted your professional work?

Volunteering for the AABB Mentoring Program has helped me continue to grow my leadership skills. It has been a valuable opportunity to build relationships in the AABB community.

How did you first get involved with AABB?

I first got involved with AABB in 2005 when I joined Strand Analytical Laboratory's paternity testing team. The paternity unit was accredited by AABB for relationship testing, and I had to prepare the unit for the external AABB audit.

What have you learned from volunteering with AABB? And what advice would you give to someone interested in volunteering?

I’ve learned so much through volunteering with AABB, but my biggest takeaway is the amazing work that our community is doing. Volunteering is a fun way to see that work up close, and sometimes, through a different lens. I would advise anyone who is interested in volunteering to do so. There are volunteer opportunities for a wide range of experience levels, so there is likely an opportunity that would be a good fit for you.

What is your favorite movie?

This might be a little bit cheesy, but my favorite movie is Patch Adams. I feel like it conveys the importance of finding your purpose and using it to make a positive impact on the world.
