Ahmed Wasay Shaikh, MBBS, DCP, SBB (ASCPi) is a clinical pathologist with more than 20 years of experience in hematology and transfusion medicine. He currently serves as registrar at the International Medical Center (IMC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he oversees transfusion services, therapeutic apheresis and laboratory quality systems. Under his leadership, the IMC achieved AABB accreditation in 2018.
Shaikh previously served as a clinical pathologist at King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Buraidah and co-chaired blood transfusion and utilization committees in both public and private sectors. He has led the development of clinical protocols for transfusion safety, including phenotype-matched transfusion strategies for sickle cell disease (SCD) and advanced antibody identification techniques. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he directed COVID-19 convalescent plasma collection and the implementation of pathogen-reduction technologies. His responsibilities also include leading therapeutic apheresis programs and supervising the transfusion medicine LIS systems.
