President Donald Trump nominated Casey Means, MD, a health entrepreneur, author and social media influencer, as the country’s next surgeon general. Means graduated from Standford University School of Medicine in 2014 and subsequently began surgical residency at Oregon Health and Science University, though she did not complete the program. Means later established a functional medicine practice in Portland, Ore., but her medical license has been inactive since 2019.
Trump’s announcement follows the withdrawal of his previous nominee, Janette Nesheiwat, MD. Trump said that Nesheiwat, a family and emergency medicine physician, medical director and former Fox News contributor, will work at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in another capacity.
