Transfusion, AABB’s monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal, will transition to an online-focused format in 2026.
Richard Kaufman, MD, Transfusion’s editor-in-chief, wrote a commentary published in this month’s issue of the journal detailing the transition plan. “Since its inception in 1961, Transfusion’s mission has been to serve as the foremost publication in the world for new information in the field of transfusion medicine,” Kaufman wrote. “In 2025, thanks to advancements in electronic communications, the journal no longer needs to be printed and delivered through the mail to fulfill that mission.”
As Kaufman noted, a digital subscription to Transfusion will remain as an important benefit of AABB membership, but AABB members will have the option to continue to receive a printed version for an additional price.
Throughout the next few months, AABB will continue to share details about the timing and procedure for members choosing to receive print copies to do so.
In the meantime, AABB members are encouraged to access Transfusion online and take advantage of the journal’s benefits, including video clips, database content, Early View, author instructions, archived issues, RISE Award papers, Altmetric scores and much more.
