The Trump Administration fired Susan Monarez as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) following reported clashes with Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Monarez was the first CDC director to be confirmed by the Senate, per a new law that went into effect in 2023, and served in the position for less than one month.
Jim O’Neill was named as the new acting director of the CDC. O’Neill is also currently serving as the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services.
