AABB has established a new Coagulation and Hemostasis Subsection in response to member feedback. The new subsection will focus on the clinical and laboratory challenges of patients with hemostatic disorders.
Discussion topics will include the use of blood products in patients with coagulopathies, such as those with liver failure or undergoing bone marrow transplantation. The group will also explore the transfusion management of patients with anticoagulant overdose, especially those taking direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), and transfusion support for patients on extracorporeal life support (ECLS). Additionally, the subsection will address the roles of hemostatic agents used alongside blood components in patients with coagulopathies.
The subsection is open to all AABB members and will meet via Zoom at 2 p.m. ET on the second Tuesday of every month. The first meeting takes place on Tuesday, Oct. 14. AABB members who would like to participate may contact AABB at standards@aabb.org.
