Blood Products Availability

Blood Products Availability is published biweekly on the AABB Newsfeed and in Weekly Report. This estimate is based on data from AABB's National Blood Exchange.

Platelets

Demand for platelets is low and met within 24 hours due to strong nationwide availability.

Red Blood Cells

The availability of RBCs usually improves as autumn approaches. However, there is fluctuating demand for O-positive and B-negative blood in portions of the upper Midwest and Southwestern U.S. Other blood types are plentiful and ready for immediate sharing.

A strong nationwide surplus of pooled cryoprecipitate continues to keep pace with demand. Single-donor cryoprecipitate is becoming more challenging to source due to production declines. There are pockets of demand for type A, type B FFP, along with an uptick in demand for type O. All known needs for type AB are being met due to moderate surplus.
