The New York State Department of Health recently confirmed a case of locally acquired chikungunya virus (CHIKV) in a Long Island woman. The case is the first instance of locally acquired CHIKV in New York and the first case in the U.S. since 2019. Officials reaffirmed that the overall risk of local transmission remains low.
