Blood Products Availability is published biweekly on the AABB Newsfeed and in Weekly Report. This estimate is based on data from AABB's National Blood Exchange.
Platelets
The national surplus of platelets is abundant. All known needs are met within 24 hours.
Red Blood Cells
In portions of the Northeast, there are pockets of usage of O-negative and B-negative blood. Otherwise, the seasonally high surplus of blood continues. This surplus usually moderates by the holiday season in the United States. All known demand is met within 24 hours.
There is an uptick in the availability of cryoprecipitate products supported by moderate national availability. Types O and B fresh frozen plasma (FFP) are plentiful, readily addressing all known usage. There is a small surplus of AB FFP, which is good news for blood centers needing to build inventory before the next usage spike. The usage of type A FFP is balanced with demand.
