National Academies Issue RFP on Prehospital Blood Use in Motor Vehicle Trauma

December 10, 2025

The National Academies’ Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program released a request for proposals last month to study prehospital blood transfusions in motor vehicle crashes. The project also aims to develop recommendations for state highway safety offices and other stakeholders to reduce prehospital deaths through enhanced trauma response.

The $400,000 study will assess the potential impact of prehospital blood transfusions on survivability and examine logistical, regulatory and other barriers to implementing such programs. Proposals are due Jan. 8; additional information is available online.
