Carter BloodCare Names New CMO

Carter BloodCare, an AABB institutional member based in Texas, recently announced Celina Montemayor-Garcia, MD, PhD, as the organization’s chief medical officer.

Prior to joining Carter BloodCare, Montemayor-Garcia served as the medical and scientific lead for red cell genomics at Canadian Blood Services. She was also a transfusion medicine physician at Unity Health Toronto and an assistant professor at the University of Toronto. Earlier in her career, she served as medical officer at Canadian Blood Services and as an assistant clinical investigator and staff clinician in the Department of Transfusion Medicine at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center.

A long-standing leader within AABB, Montemayor-Garcia previously served on the AABB Board of Directors and currently serves on the RISE Committee and AABB’s Global Standards Committee, which led development of AABB’s Fundamental Standards for Blood Collection and Transfusion.

She has also championed AABB’s partnership with the Mexican Association of Transfusion Medicine (AMMTAC), a collaboration focused on strengthening transfusion quality systems, safety and standards across the United States and Mexico.
