The U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) recently announced the availability of $999.5 million in funding to support roadway safety improvements through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program. The application deadline is May 26.
The 2026 notice of funding opportunity, published March 27 in the Federal Register, identifies “public safety infrastructure” as an eligible investment area, including post-crash care, emergency response coordination and prehospital blood transfusion activities. Eligible activities include public safety system improvements such as field blood delivery, dispatch systems and related emergency response technologies tied to roadway safety strategies.
AABB encourages organizations to include accreditation under AABB’s Standards for Emergency Prehospital and Scheduled Out-of-Hospital Transfusions when applying for a DoT grant. Interested organizations may contact AABB via email for support.
